How to have your data deleted
One email does it. There is no form to fill in, no account needed, and no button to hunt for — a person reads it and a person does it.

If you came here from Facebook or Instagram
Our own Facebook and Instagram app does one thing: it posts our announcements to our own page. It does not read your profile, your friends, your likes or your comments, and it stores nothing about anyone who follows us. If you have never had an account with us, there is nothing of yours here to delete.
Write to us anyway if you want that in writing — we will check and confirm, whether the answer is a list or the word nothing.
If your journal uses the Journal Newsroom
That is the part of DOI Doctor that posts to your journal's own accounts, and it has a Disconnect button that removes the permission the moment you press it. Its own page explains all three ways, including removing us from Facebook's or Google's settings directly.
What to send us
- The email address you used with us — or the journal name, if you do not remember which address.
- What you want: a copy of what we hold, a correction to it, or its deletion.
- Send it from the address on the account if you can. If you cannot, we will ask one question that only the account holder can answer. We will never ask you for a password, and we will never ask you to send one.
What happens then
- We reply within two working days to say we have it.
- We look under that address across all three services — Journal Audit, GetIndexed and DOI Doctor — not only the one you wrote about.
- We send you the list of what is there, so you can decide whether you want all of it gone or only part.
- We delete it and write back to confirm, within thirty days of your first email and usually within a few.
What gets deleted
- The sign-in account itself, and your email address with it.
- Every journal you added, and its profile.
- Every credential you stored — a Crossref login, an OJS key, a mailbox password. These are encrypted where they sit, and deleting them destroys them; there is no second copy.
- Every audit, every report, every run and every file built for you.
- Every enquiry and service request you sent us through the site, and the notes on them.
What we cannot delete, and why we say so
A DOI registered at Crossref, or metadata deposited to an index on your journal's instruction, is a public record. That is the whole point of registering it: other people's citations, links and archives depend on it resolving. We can ask Crossref for a correction or a withdrawal on your behalf, and we will — but we cannot reach into a public register and erase what is already there, and neither can anyone else who tells you otherwise.
Invoices and payment records stay, because the law requires a business to keep its accounts for a set period. They hold what a receipt holds and nothing more.
Our host keeps rotating backups. A deleted record disappears from those as they rotate, and we do not restore from a backup to bring back something you asked us to remove.
If any part of your request falls under this, we tell you exactly which part and why, in the same reply. We do not quietly keep things.
Why there is no button
A deletion here can reach a journal's live DOI records, so it is done by a person who checks first, not by a control that can be pressed by accident or by someone who got into your email for ten minutes. It costs you one email and a reply, and it means nothing of yours disappears without a written trail on both sides.
