How it is checked
Our web host reads the front page of every site, and one name through the Handle server, twice an hour; a page counts as answering when it comes back with HTTP 200 and its own text. Our second server reads the same pages every five minutes, and each of the two watches the other, so a fault is mailed to us whichever of them sees it first. This page is drawn from the web host's checks; nothing on it is typed by hand.
