Integrations: where Smart Scholars connects
The plugins, the assistant connector and the open data a journal can use — what each one does for the journal, and how to get it.
Publishing platforms
Code public · GPL-3.0
Complete Records for Crossref (OJS 3.3, 3.4, 3.5)
Completes every record a journal deposits with Crossref through OJS's own Crossref plugin — the reference list, the authors' affiliations and Crossmark — from what the journal already holds in OJS, then reads each record back from Crossref to show what landed.
Code public · GPL-3.0
Complete Records for Crossref for WordPress
Registers DOIs with Crossref for articles published with WordPress — with references, affiliations, ORCID iDs, abstracts, licences and Crossmark — checks each deposit against Crossref's own schema before it is sent, and reads the record back afterwards.
For our clients
SEO Head Tags and Security Headers (OJS 3.3, 3.4, 3.5)
A meta description and a canonical link on each public page of an OJS journal, and five security headers on every page OJS renders — so search engines read each page the way the journal means it.

Identifiers and registries
Live
Crossref
New DOIs, metadata repairs, resource-only deposits and URL moves sent under the journal's own Crossref account, and every record read back after each change.
Live
ORCID and ROR
Each author's ORCID iD and each institution's ROR ID on the record — a ROR ID only when ROR's own matching service is sure.
Live
DataCite
For any DOI we do not hold, the registry names the agency that does — and for a DataCite DOI (datasets, theses, software) it shows DataCite's own record.
Open data
Live
Registry API, OAI-PMH and feeds
Every record the Smart Scholars Registry holds, as JSON, by search, in citation formats by content negotiation, through OAI-PMH, and as a change feed — documented on one page.
Questions people ask
Does the OJS plugin replace OJS's own Crossref plugin?
No. It works with it: OJS's Crossref plugin writes the deposit, and this plugin completes the record before it is sent — the reference list, affiliations and Crossmark — and reads it back from Crossref afterwards.
Which OJS versions are supported?
OJS 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5 — one package for each.
Do I need an account to use the connector in an AI assistant?
No. The connector reads public registers only; a help request is sent only when you ask for one.
Is the registry's data open?
Yes. The registry's records can be read as JSON, through OAI-PMH and as a change feed; the documentation page lists each address.
