Prices for journals outside India
Two plans, per journal, a year, in US dollars, paid in advance. Crossref’s own fees are separate: the journal pays them to Crossref, at Crossref’s price.
DOIs done for you
$600 a year per journal
$400 in Crossref’s GEM countries (the list)
- Crossref set up with you: the membership application, or Crossref’s GEM programme where the journal’s country is in it
- The DOI settings in the journal’s own system (OJS)
- Every article of every issue registered, with complete metadata: abstract, references, ORCID iDs, licence, funding
- Each record read back from Crossref, and any fault put right
- The back issues registered in the first year
DOIs + indexing
$1,500 a year per journal
$1,000 in Crossref’s GEM countries (the list)
Everything in “DOIs done for you”, and:
- The readiness audit of the journal
- The indexing applications the audit shows the journal fits — DOAJ first — each followed until it is decided
- The journal’s public health card: what it has achieved, each line linked to its source
What else to know
- Up to 200 articles a year in either plan; each article beyond, $3.
- A publisher with five or more journals: 20% off every journal.
- Crossref’s own fees are the journal’s, paid to Crossref directly: $275 a year for a publisher with publishing revenue under $1 million, plus $1 for each new article and $0.15 for each back-issue article. Crossref’s fees ↗ In the countries Crossref’s GEM programme covers, nothing.
- The journal joins Crossref in its own name; the DOIs and the records stay the journal’s, whoever it works with later.
- Payment by PayPal invoice — card or PayPal balance. Work starts when the invoice is paid.
- Not sure which plan fits? Start with “Not sure yet” on the form: we read the journal’s public record first and say. Ask →
Crossref’s GEM countries — 79 countries; our price there is $400 or $1,000 a year per journal
In these countries Crossref charges its members no membership or registration fees (its GEM programme), and our two plans cost $400 and $1,000 a year per journal. Crossref decides who is eligible, by the member’s country; the list is Crossref’s own, as its page showed it on 21 Oct 2026. Crossref’s GEM page ↗
